The Hoosiers est un trio, mais ça n'a pas toujours été le cas. Avant de rencontrer un troisième acolyte, c'était un duo et encore avant deux artistes distincts.

The Hoosiers ont créé une dose de ce que le groupe a lui-même appelé Odd-Pop. Un terme qui semble plutôt bien trouvé puisqu'il s'agit bel et bien de pop, mais qu'elle est également bizarre. The Hoosiers citent volontiers comme des influences The Cure, Jeff Buckley, The Flaming Lips ou XTC.

Alfonso et Irwin ont grandi ensemble dans les environs de Reading et ont décidé, à l'âge de 16 ans, de suivre quelques conseils avisés venant pourtant d'une source inattendue. Celle du prof de chimie d'Irwin qui avait lui-même été batteur dans un groupe pop des années 70 du nom de Sailor (pour plus d'information sur quelques tubes comme Girls, Girls, Girls et Champagne, demandez à vos parents). Suivant ce conseil, ils partent à la découverte des Etats-Unis.

Mais ils vont se perdre un peu en chemin et s'arrêter quelques temps à l'université d'Indianapolis où on leur propose de bénéficier de bourses de Football. Une situation qui s'avère plutôt ironique, dans la mesure où Irwin et Al détestent tous les deux courir.

Désespérément à la recherche d'un bassiste, Al et Irwin sont bien contents de croiser sur leur chemin, Martin Skarendahl, ce maestro suédois, et ex-pompier dans l'armée, ayant navigué pendant deux ans entre Oslo et Paris dans le cadre d'un pèlerinage européen très personnel. Le groupe The Hossiers est né.

Un "Hoosier' est un habitant de l'Indiana, un état du centre des Etats-Unis, ce nom vient d'un certain Samuel Hoosier, vers 1825, et que les "Hoosiers Men" étaient réputés pour être des travailleurs des plus courageux et durs à la tâche.

The Hossiers est un groupe plein d'idées et d'énergie. Et il le prouve avec un premier album, The Trick to Life. Leur odd-pop unique est aussi rafraîchissante que leurs excentricités.
